Awards season is upon us, and tonight is the first one of the year where YOU, THE FANS, get to choose who wins in such categories as Favorite Actor, Favorite Female Artist, Favorite Animated Movie Voice (I’m not kidding), etc…  I am, of course, talking about The People’s Choice Awards (http://www.peopleschoice.com)

I really love the idea of awards where the people get a voice, because these are where shows that would NEVER have a chance at an Oscar or Golden Globe may win something.  So we see a film like Transformers: Dark of the Moon up for Favorite Movie (seriously). Later this year we’ll have the MTV Movie Awards where Golden Popcorn statues are awarded in such categories as Best On-Screen Couple and Best Kiss.  These awards are fun and, sadly, a lot more entertaining than the high-falutin’ Oscars have been recently.  But the tides may be changing since Billy Crystal is returning to his hosting duties (yay!), so we may have an Oscar broadcast this year the ends somewhere in the realm of on-time and is actually interesting to watch (even though it looks like the field of nominees for Best Picture will be as artsy as ever).

I’ve done my voting, but will not be watching the broadcast because by the time it airs on the west coast the awards will have already been tweeted and blogged about so the excitement will be gone. But here’s hoping The Vampire Diaries gets Favorite Network TV Show – Drama, and Fringe gets Favorite SciFi/Fantasy TV Show!  And Robert Pattinson as Favorite Movie Actor wouldn’t hurt either.
